Product for comparing configurations?

Hi,

Does anybody know of a good product to use to compare device configurations to a reference which will give a nice report showing the differences in each switch? The idea is that we want to standardise our configurations as much as possible. So we need a way of finding the devices which don't match the reference.

We currently use NetRevisor to rollout bulk configuration changes on our network and it can also query all configurations and return those which don't conform. This works well and does what we want but it only works one line or feature at a time. I am looking for something that can compare the entire configuration at once and give me a nice report.

Anybody know of something which will do this?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Hi,

Take a look at rancid:

You should be able to cook it to provide what you're looking for. Alternatively, Cisco has a product that does this but it's incredibly expensive.

Andrew.

I use a tool called examdiff to compare config files. I am not sure how good the reporting is as its primarily a visual compare tool. Check out the link below for further details.

I have heard of an application called Opsware which might fulfill your requirements. Check out the link below for further details.

Hope that helps

I use ExamDiff when comparing two configs. I also created a template (a text file with all the required general and security settings required) which ensures about 90% accuracy of conformity. I then use Solarwinds Cirrus to check each device (before the audits). You can send commands via Cirrus which is really nice.

Thanks everybody, I'll check them out
