RME Config Collection issue after IOS-Update

We have updated some CAT-6509-SUP720 to IOS 12.2.(33)SXH3a. Since then you need to enter the Username again to enter the enable mode. LMS 3.0 RME ( on Solaris ) with the latest device packages is now unable to collect the config from these devices. Is a fix available for that problem and is that already fixed in LMS3.1 ?

Not true. You can use SNMPv3 for TFTP. Just make sure you assign an appropriate write view to your group. For example:

snmp-server group v3group v3 auth read v1default write v1default

This shouldn't have anything to do with an IOS update. This must be something in your AAA configuration. There is no separate enable username field in DCR.

But the AAA config on the devices and also the settings on the ACS-Server are unchanged ?! Maybe there are new default values or something in the new IOS.

Could you take a look at your LMS Device Credentials page? You should have a field for enable username and password (for both telnet and SSH).

Re: RME Config Collection issue after IOS-Update

It would help to see the config on the device, but this is most likely something being pushed down by the AAA server. Is the username a different one from the first level username?

Nothing was changed.

Unfortunately it is a Cisco IOS SoftwareBug CSCsu21040 and the RME is useless right now.

This one is new to me. Thanks for the pointer.

You could get around this by allowing TFTP config fetches and deployments for the time being.

Re: RME Config Collection issue after IOS-Update

For tftp I need SNMP rw and it seems that only SNMPv2 RW is supported and not SNMPv3 with write view for config transfer with tftp, is that correct ?

Re: RME Config Collection issue after IOS-Update

Yes, now it works.

It seems quite tricky with this SNMPv3 views.

I only knew the view names mib2 and cisco before, also you can't see the build-in views on a device by entering "snmp-server group v3group v3 auth write ?".

Is with the view v1default all possible SNMP enabled and is there some good cisco documentation about the snmpV3 views ?

Re: RME Config Collection issue after IOS-Update

You can see the built-in views with the command "show snmp view". The v1default view has been around for a while, and will be on all modern versions of IOS. More on SNMP views can be found at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094489.shtml#setupsnmp .
