I am just starting to learn about snmp and was wondering if anyone could recommend some decent snmp management software that will help me learn. There are so many tools online I'm a bit overwhelmed. Any suggestions would be great!
I'm of the school of thought that you should start with the basics without all of the bells and whistles, and explore a command line suite of utilities. To that end, I suggest net-snmp (http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net). This is a very complete toolchain, and the website offers help on SNMP basics as well as how to use the tools.
If you'd prefer something more graphical, you might try MGSoft's MIB browser for either Windows or Linux (http://www.mg-soft.com/). This will show you how the MIB tree is laid out, plus give you the ability to query SNMP agents.
