Hi,

In the presence of multuple images on a device, what is the heuristic used by the device to select an image during a reload? We have seen documentation stating that the 'first' image is used. What determines the 'first' image?

Can we control the 'first' image via the SNMP (or Cisco Flash mib)?

I should note that we are using a range of Cisco equipment both new and old, so some of our devices that we're working with only have enough memory for one image at a time, while

others we can have multiple images on.

The first image is the one listed first when you do a show flash. This depends on copy order, and cannot be controlled via SNMP. The best way to ensure that a device boots off of the desired image is to explicitly configure that image. For example:

boot system flash disk1:/c7200-adventerprisek9-mz.124-22.T

Changing a device's configuration can be controlled via SNMP by uploading configuration changes using, for example, TFTP and the CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB. See this tech tip for more details:
