Pardon my ignorance but trying to understand this...we have a 3845 with security bundle. We're looking to generate SNMP traps for events dealing with VPN connections, intrusion detection, and related. How can I easily find a list of such events that we can generate traps for? I'm somewhat new at this and can't seem to search through the MIBs to easily find this. Can someone help? Thanks.
Unfortunately, there is not a good tool for getting supported traps in various images. However, you do have a few options. The first is to use the MIB Locator at http://www.cisco.com/go/mibs/ to find all of the MIBs supported in your version of IOS. Then, go through each of those MIB files looking for objects of type NOTIFICATION-TYPE. Those are traps. For example:
"This trap is generated when a new ISAKMP policy element is defined on the managed entity. The context of the event includes the updatednumber of ISAKMP policy elements currently available."
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
