SNMP

Hi!

1. What is the significant benefits of SNMPv2 over SNMPv1?

2. Can Cisco equipment support SNMPv1, SNMPv2, SNMPv3?

3. What is the significant benefits of SNMPv3 over SNMPv2?

Thank you very much.

Re: SNMP

Hi

The security flaws which were kept opened/unaswered with version 1 was addressed in version 2.

Version 1 doesnt use any kinda security in sending messages which is simple plain text and can be read off using packet sniffers.

with version2 this security flaws were answered and with a difference in the PDU as well as with the MIB defintions..

Variants were also formed using version 2 which also made that not much usuable ..

Version 3 is introduced to harden the security part to improvise the encryption/hash being used and also to remove the complex nature added with version 2.

Attacks were detected using the SNMP ports running version 2 which were also rectified with version 3..

AFAIK all the 3 versions are supported in cisco equipments..
