SNMPv2 and SNMPv3 Use same MIB or Different

Hi Friends,

I would like to clarify some concerns related to SNMP.

SNMPv2 and SNMPv3 Use same MIB or Different

SNMP MIB is software/IOS  dependent?

Consider that device is already managed by SNMPv2 and we are migrating it to snmpv3, so whether we have to change MIB from snmp tool.

Regards,

Vivek Kumar

Hi Vivek,

SNMPv2 and SNMPv3 Use same MIB or Different   >>>

SNMP v2 and V3 are the versions of SNMP ,  they use the same mib . but their difference in the way ,how they work

SNMPv3 is more secure than SNMPv2

SNMP MIB is software/IOS  dependent? Yes

yes , depending in the IOS /IOS-xr / IOS-Xe  code you are running .. MIB supports would be different.

No , you don't need to change anything on your tool as long as you tool supports SNMPv3 authentication types.

Thanks-

FYI ..

What is the difference between SNMP v2 and SNMP v3?

Main difference between SNMP v2 and SNMP  v3 are the enhancements to the security and remote configuration model.  SNMP v3 adds cryptographic security to SNMP v2. SNMP v3 replaces the  simple password sharing (as clear text) in SNMP v2 with a much more  secure encoded security parameters. Due to the introduction of new  conventions for texts, concepts and new terminology, SNMP v3 looks  different than SNMP v2 (even though there aren’t many changes).
