SPAN session limit - NAM

hi,

I would like to understand the SPAN session limitation on Cat65K.

I have NAM in slot 3 of Cat65K. When I do show monitor session all, the partial return is

Session 3

---------

Type : Service Module Session

Modules allowed : 1-9

Modules active : 1,7

BPDUs allowed : Yes

Module 1 is FWSM and 7 is the IDSM. Are these sessions default. What is it used for ? Can it be deleted.

What is the SPAN session limit on Cat65K. Do I have to deleted existing SPAN session to create new one if the limit is reached. Is the session limitation per NAM data port. Can both the NAM data ports be used simultaneously. Can there be two sessions per singe NAM data port. ?

Re: SPAN session limit - NAM

This explains the limits on SPAN, RSPAN, and ERSPAN:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/7600/ios/12.2SXF/configuration/guide/span.html#wp1102614

Essentially, you only have two available local SPAN sessions. It doesn't look like you have either Local Session configured. But you are using the service module SPAN reflector feature. You may need to disable this if you're eating up a required SPAN session. See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_tech_note09186a008015c612.shtml#FWSM for more details. If you reach your limit of two Local Sessions, you must delete one before you can configure a new one.

Yes, both data ports on the NAM can be used simultaneously. No, you can only have one SPAN session per port.
