Syslog messages sent to syslog server

I have configured my 6509, IOS 12.2(18), for syslogging.

However, it seems that not all the messages that should be being sent are being sent.

Even when I configure:

"logging trap debugging"

I still only get notification level messages sent to the syslog server.

I really only want warning and higher severity messages sent, but I need to confirm that the syslogging is functioning correctly.

Cheers, Kirby.

Re: Syslog messages sent to syslog server

Hi

You could change the buffer level to be the same as the trap

i.e.

logging buffered notifications

logging trap notifications

just to see what you 'should' be getting at the syslog server.

I'd also check the syslog server to ensure it isn't filtering any messages. I know ciscoworks has this functionality.

The first group of lines of output from show logging will show various aspects of how logging is set up. It might help us figure this out if you would do show logging and post the first group of lines of output.

It might also be helpful if you would post the output of show run | include log

I also like the suggestion of checking the output of show log to verify that messages are being generated which you expect to see on syslog server and are not seeing.
