Hmm... 30 degrees Celcius looks like a good value to me. What are you expecting?

You think that is bad some of mine are 40+

We have poor ventilation in this rack.

Most of our switches even in well air-conditioned comms rooms are constant at around the 30 mark

30 is good! But the problem is that it is 30 for months for all the devices . it hasn't changed even once so I had a doubt that probably the monitoring software itself is faulty.

What are you using to capture the snmp trap?

its called snappimon.

sorry that should be 'sh env temp st'

its called snappimon.

what do you get is you type 'sh env temp' at the exec? does the temperature show something different than the monitoring solution is displaying?

Well, if you need to see the temperature change, you can try to disrupt the air-flow temporarily. For example, if it's a Cat6500 chassis, you can pull out the Fan tray for a few minutes. (Do it at your own risk).

Or you can turn off the air-conditioning in the server room for 15 min.
