Unable to start important processes like "CmfDbEngine" and many others, even after stopping/starting Daemon Manager

Hello,

There are some unknonw issues with ciscoworks LMS 3.2 on a solaris server. Many important processes like :-

CmfDbEngine  (status - Administrator has shut down this server)

CmfDbMonitor (status - Administrator has shut down this server)

DCRServer      (status - Administrator has shut down this server)

CMFOGSServer (status - Administrator has shut down this server)

and many others (around 40 processes were in shutdown state).

When I try to start the processes from the Console window by "Managing processes" option, they still remain down with the same status.

I tried to stop and then start the daemon manager, with the below commands:-

/etc/init.d/dmgtd stop

&

/etc/init.d/dmgtd start

After this, when I run command to check processes status (attached for your reference), I can still see those processes down.

I am new to ciscoworks and I am trying to understand what might be the root cause. Please help me.

Thanks,

Siva

A lot of things may have happened that could cause this.

Check out this document to get you started on troubleshooting this:

Hello Michel,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I have done some troubleshooting, and found the below:-

I tried to run validation on the common services database, by following the below steps:-

1) stop daemon manager

2) run validation on cmf database. Below is the output for your reference:-

#  /opt/CSCOpx/objects/db/conf/configureDb.pl action=validate dsn=cmf
SQL  Anywhere Command File Hiding Utility Version 10.0.1.3830
SQL Anywhere  Validation Utility Version 10.0.1.3830
SQL error (-82) -- Unable to start  specified database: cmf.log: transaction log file not found
SQL error (-82)  -- Unable to start specified database: cmf.log: transaction log file not  found
ERROR: [StandardDbUpgrade] Validation of cmf database  failed
#

3) Start Daemon manager.

As per the validation step, transaction file (cmf.log) was not found. I have verified the same by going into the database location and listing its contents:-

    bash-3.00$ ls -al

total  377182
-r--------   1 casuser  casusers 192872448 Jul 16 09:42  cmf.db
-r--r-----   1 casuser  casusers    1136 May 28  2009  dbviews.txt
drwxr-x---   2 casuser  casusers       5 Nov  8  2010  orig

bash-3.00$ pwd

/opt/CSCOpx/databases/cmf

bash-3.00$

Can you please let me know if this can be the root cause for all the issues I am facing ? If yes, can I try the below:-

1) stop daemon manager

2) force close the cmf DB

3) start daemon manager

I got the above steps from the doc at https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-8796

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Siva

Hello Michel,

the issue got resolved

I followed the steps i mentioned in my earlier post, and now I can see all processes up. The GUI console is still taking time to show all the details (still loading), but by running pdshow, i can see all the processes up and running.

Thanks a lot.

I will close this post.

Thanks,

Siva

These documents are very useful, can't say that enough.

Too bad there are a lot of questions wrongly posted on the docs forum and no moderator to clean it up.

And as you see, fixing this sort of stuff is not rocket sience after all :-)

Cheers,

Michel
