User Tracking: Duplicate Entries

Hi All,

We are having a problem with User Tracking giving duplicate entries, the entries are the same except for the port that they are connected to, for example, it will show "User A" uplinked to "fa0/1 on Switch A" which will be correct but then it would also show "User A" uplinked to "gi0/1 on Switch B" (gi0/1 being a trucnk port), let me know if anyone has run into the same problem, Thanks.

Also we are using CW LMS 2.5.1 with CM 4.0.5 on Windows 2000 Server.

Re: User Tracking: Duplicate Entries

This looks similar to bug CSCsf00966

Symptom:

User Tracking reports duplicate end hosts are connected to uplink ports on Catalyst 4000 IOS switches. These uplink ports have both CDP neighbors and are trunking.

Conditions:

This only occurs after upgrading to Campus Manager 4.0.5, and only on Catalyst 4000 IOS trunking uplink ports,

Workaround:

The workaround is to completely reinitialize the ANI database using NMSROOT/campus/bin/reinitdb.pl -restore, then perform a new Campus Data Collector followed by a new User Tracking major acquisition.

(Note: NMSROOT is the path into which CiscoWorks was installed. By default, this is /opt/CSCOpx on Solaris and C:\PROGRA~1\CSCOpx on Windows.)

I think there may be a patch for this problem now though that you can get via TAC

Re: User Tracking: Duplicate Entries

Is this on a specific switch type?

Re: User Tracking: Duplicate Entries

Yes, it seems that the switches that are giving duplicate entries are all Catalyst 4000 series switches running 12.2(20)EW3 image.

Re: User Tracking: Duplicate Entries

Hi,

Before erasing the complete ANI DB you can go into :

Admin => Acquisition => Delete Interval

and in End Host Table you specify for example 2 hours and click delete now in that you will remove all the duplicate entries

after that perform another UT Acquisition and you will have a clean UT db without having to delete the NI db completly.

Best Regards.

Olivier
