Using RME to upgrade IOS on a 3550

Will RME create the directory for the IOS before it downloads it to the flash or will it just download to the root?

flash:c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-13.EA1a/c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-13.EA1a.bin

If you download a .tar image to a switch using TFTP, then RME will expand the tar image on the switch, and the directory will be created. If you use RCP, there is currently a bug where this extraction will not be done.

If you transfer the raw .bin image to the switch, it will be downloaded to flash:/ .

So I'm guessing there are a few different ways this can be done using RME?

Today was my 1st test and I used RME to transfer the raw .bin file. It worked and downloaded to flash:/.

So do I have a choice where I can use TFTP so RME will exand the tar image on the switch?

Yes, you can adjust the SWIM deployment protocol in RME > Admin > Software Management. You will need to use the .tar image, of course.

I don't see in RME 3.5 where you're talking about. I've attached a screen print of the area I think you're referring to.

Can you please take a look and eloborate?

Thank you.

I believe that the RCP protocol is set in the following location:

RME -> Admin -> Software Management -> Edit Preferences

How do I configure RME 3.5 to download a tar image using TFTP?

See Nadim's note. If the SWIM protocol is TFTP, RME will download and extract the .tar image.
