Using RME to upgrade IOSes/CatOSes -

Do the devices have to be configured with a read/write string for RME to be able to "push" an IOS or CatOS out?

Looks like a read/write string is required.....

Yes, you need to configure a RW string which uses snmpset to initiate a tftp transfer

If you use RCP, then the RW string is not required.

Note: certain device types may not support RCP.

If you use tftp as the transport protocol the RW string is required.

I noticed in a previous version that ciscoworks may hang on these sort of jobs.

The reason was that only certain combinations of management and transport are supported.

If the device was managed by telnet then tftp or rcp was required, if it was managed by ssh only scp would work right.

This may have been fixed in the recent updates
