What's the command on CatOS to enable/disable logging of link-status msgs ?

On IOS switches the command 'logging event link-status' and 'no logging event link-status' is entered on each port. The interface range command can be used on supported IOSes.

What are the equivalent commands for CatOS.

Hi,

Use the 'set port trap / disable' command.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

I'm still a little unclear.

Link-status messages can be sent via SNMP or logging.

On IOS, both can be enabled or disabled with:

logging event link-status

no logging event link-status

snmp trap link-status

no snmp trap link-status

I'm guessing the commands

set port trap enable

set port trap disable

are for SNMP. If so, is there a command to enable/disable logging messages on CatOS?

You are correct, set port trap enable | disable are for SNMP traps. There is no command to enable/disable logging link-status messages on CatOS.

Ok.

Answer this then:

do messages even get logged when a port on a Catalyst switch running CatOS transitions from up to down?

I shutdown the interface on the router that is plugged into the switch in one shell, and in the other shell I was logged into the switch.

Here is the syslog message I got on the switch:

2006 Feb 09 22:06:38 EST -05:00 %SNMP-5-LINKTRAP:Link Down Trap -- ifName=6/15

So it is a syslog message that lets you know an SNMP link down trap was sent.

When I changed the router interface back to up, this is the syslog message I got on the switch:

2006 Feb 09 22:08:58 EST -05:00 %SNMP-5-LINKTRAP:Link Up Trap -- ifName=6/15

So what I get out of this is the command will do both syslog and SNMP...

If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Thank you for testing that for me.

It definitely seems that way.
