What to monitor on the switch??

We are about to implement new monitoring system and we are thinking about what to monitor.. My ideas are

- Management IP availability (response in ms)

- Power supply state

- available memory

- average CPU usage

- Temperature

- Uptime

- Fan state

Any other ideas???

Thanks

M.

Re: What to monitor on the switch??

I always feel that the trunks / uplinks / interswitchlinks should be 100% clean.

No errors/drops on these ports.

So you need to establish which ports are trunks etc.

And then get the iferrors.

Also in an environment where you have invested in L2/L3 redundancy one should verify that these ports are up and error-free.

Cheers,

Michel

Re: What to monitor on the switch??

- interface errors

- snmp-trap. Send messages via email interface up/down and user login
