Cisco Works IDS MC license has expired.

We can't get the IDS MC in our Cisco Works environment to work. We have installed following software :

- Cisco Works Common Services V2.2

- CWCS Foundation V2.2

- Management Center for Cisco Security Agents 4.0

- IDS MC V1.2

- Security Monitor 1.2

We've got a valid VMS license for 20 devices which has been upgraded for the latest versions. This license has been accepted by Cisco Works.

However when we want to open the Device Manager in the IDS MC, we get the above error :

'IDS MC license has expired'. So we are not able to add and see any of our IDS appliances (4210 V4.1).

We've installed all packages onto a Windows 2000 Terminal Server (this service has been disabled, because we know that it is not supported).

However we checked the process status and we saw that following processes are not listed :

- daframework

- fms

- lm

But we didn't any error during installation.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance !

Johan Derycke.

We are working on a patch to 1.2 to allow non-English versions of Windows. Check CCO in a couple of weeks for the availability of this patch.

Hi Johan,

VMS 2.2 is supported on Windows 2000 Professional

Windows 2000 Server and Windows Advanced Server. Don't know what Windows 2000 Terminal Server OS is. Was the terminal server service turned off "during" the install? IIS is also not supported. The error that you are getting is significant of either TS or the IIS services running during the install. You will have to install the VMS with these services disabled.

thanks,

yatin

Yatin,

Thanks for your fast response. We tried already turning off the Terminal services and about the IIS not being supported I didn't find any installation document confirming this. Meantime we've got another response stating that only the English(US) regional settings were supported. And as it turned out, this seemed to be the problem. After changing to these settings, uninstalling VMS and reinstalling, we managed to add our sensors into the IDS MC. So problem solved ! This is the link we got to the server requirements :

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/mgt_ids/idsmc12/ig/ch02.htm#59

After the reinstallation we could go back to our former regional settings (French) and everything still worked. So these settings are only needed for the installation.

Best regards,

Johan.
