Time delays in notification

Guys,

So I understand that the notifications are going to have some delay, but I just went through my alerts again, and the last 2 updates happened like this:

Event happened at 8:00:45 local time, and the alert was sent out at 8:10 (which is still listed at 9:10) - Free memory problem

Event happened at 8:10:51 local time, and the alert was sent out at 8:25 (which is still listed at 9:25) - Free memory recovery

So I guess, what amount of delay should I be expecting?  These are not critical events, by any means, but if the site falls off the internet, I would prefer to know somewhere slightly before 10 minutes after the customer phones.
