Cisco SFP-10G-SR module fiber length question

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on the support forum.  Thank you in advance for any input you may have.

I would like some clarification on fiber lengths when using a SFP-10G-SR module.  The link below indicates it supports a link length of 26m on standard Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI)-grade Multimode Fiber (MMF).  My question is, can I use a shorter length fiber jumper without risking burning up the optic?  Would I need to attenuate the light levels or should I stick with a 26m jumper?  Thanks again for your input.

Yes you can certainly use a shorter jumper. The spec is the maximum distance.

Hope this helps

Thank you for the comments, much appreciated.

As Chris notes, you can go (much) shorter.

"As per IEEE specifications, minimum cabling distance for -LR, -SR, -SX, -LX modules is 2m "
