convert a circuit from UPSR to unprotect on 15454s(MSPP)

Hi,

we are implementing ONS 15454 SONET(MSPP) network. And Is there any method to convert a UPSR circuit(VT/STS) to unprotect on ONS15454/15310(Rel 6.0) by using CTC/TL1 without service interruption? Appreciate your expert advice.

In release 6.0 there is bridge and roll, but a topology change may not be supported. The easy way is to use TL1.

1. Telnet to node 3083

2. At the drop nodes, log in:

ACT-USER:::1::;

3. Retrive the cross connect to take a look:

RTRV-CRS-STS1::STS-6-1-5:1;

This looks at the cross connect at card 6 sts 5. A upsr will have a path selector at each drop node and the cross connect will look something like this:

...STS-6-1-5&STS-12-1-5,STS-2-1...

This would be STS 5 on cards 6 and 12 connected to a DS3 card on Slot 2, port 1. To change it:

4. DLT-CRS-STS1::STS-6-1-5&STS-12-1-5,STS-2-1:1;

5. Now add the connection back:

ENT-CRS-STS1::STS-6-1-5,STS-2-1:1::2WAY;

Copy and paste the dlt and the ent at the same time, it will almost be instantaneous.

It is very important to have the old circuit mapped clearly as well as the new design, as the through connects must be deleted also.

Hi,

I don't think you'll be able to do that without service interruption. Can you please provide more details on what you are trying to do?

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your advice. I'll try TL1 to make sure how long the service hits would be and check the CTC/CTM circuit data then.

We recently went through a similar activity (went from BLSR ring to 1+1 protected spoke and hub). We considered scripting it in TL1 but opted not to becasue of the need to accurately script a couple hundred ciruits' TL1 commands (across 9 nodes) was too great an operational risk. We instead coordinated a service affecting outage and manually deleted and recreated each circuit from CTC. Any given circuit didn't experience more than a 5 minute service interruption and we felt better being able to confirm successful creation on a circuit by circuit basis. We also had a POS overlay that we were transitioning as well. contributing to the transition complexity.

It took three nights to complete the job, but all went well. I'd do it the same way if I had to do it again.

As Todd indicated, in release 6.0 there is a bridge and roll feature; you can upgrade an unprotected circuit to a fully protected circuit or downgrade a fully protected circuit to an unprotected circuit with the exception of a UPSR circuit. When using bridge and roll on UPSR circuits, you can roll the source or destination or both path selectors in a dual roll. However, you cannot roll a single path selector.

The CTC Bridge and Roll wizard reroutes live traffic without interrupting service. The bridge process takes traffic from a designated "roll from" facility and establishes a cross-connect to the designated "roll to" facility. When the bridged signal at the receiving end point is verified, the roll process creates a new cross-connect to receive the new signal. When the roll completes, the original cross-connects are released. You can use the bridge and roll feature for maintenance functions such as card or facility replacement, or for load balancing. You can perform a bridge and roll on the following ONS platforms: ONS 15454, ONS 15454 SDH, ONS 15600, ONS 15327, and ONS 15310-CL.

Hi all,

The conversion would occurs traffic hits up to 2 ES(SES). After DLT and ENT connects, circuits should be reconfigured. If the resulting circuit is a valid circuit, it appears as a DISCOVERED circuit. Otherwise, the circuit appears as a DISCOVERD_TL1 or PARTIAL_TL1 circuit.
