how to test signal of gbic

Hi,

we have an aging network with lots of gbic lx and zx,

I wanted to know what would i need to test the signal power of my lx and zx gbic, this way I could plan wich of my gbic will need to be replaced.

also, i have a 7201 with a glc-zx-sm module, the module support DOM, what command can i send on my 7201 to see the DOM status?

"show interface transceiver" is the command. You may need to add the word "detail" at the end depending on your transceiver and IOS.

See Figure 4 on this page for an example and explanation.

I am unable to do those command on my 7201,

maybe my IOS need to be updated, it is

12.4(12.2r)T

also for testing the gbic i guess i could use a fiber optic testing equipement, I will have to check if fluke make one, or if anyone could recommend a good one?

Can you check to confirm that your transceiver has DOM support?

Please provide the output of "show inventory" command showing the lines specific to the transceiver you are trying to measure the power on. (The GLC-ZX-SM-RGD don't support DOM.)
