Mapped Ethernet and Ethernet Private Line Services

Does anyone know what is the downside of offering mapped Ethernet or Ethernet Private Line Services?

Re: Mapped Ethernet and Ethernet Private Line Services

Ethernet private line services are typically created by simply mapping Ethernet frames to SONET/SDH payloads. The key problem here is that this type of service is actually a TDM/ transport service that is not bringing in additional revenues or profits. Worse yet, it cannibalizes existing DS1/DS3 transmission service revenues, which accrue at higher margins.

Hope this helps!

Some equipment of the new generation of SDH/SONET, implement the Rec. G.7041 "Generic framing procedure (GFP)". In these recommendation say how to mapping Ethernet, ESCON, FICON and others protocols over SDH.
