Hi,
I just started preparing for CCNA(Switching and Routing)as the first step for me in the Networking Industry.Any one has an idea about that Optical Specialist Certificate from Cisco?
the I have found it as "Retired"
is there any alternative from other vendors?

I don't know if there will be a CCNA version for optical (yet) but there is a CCIE Service Provider which is half routing and switching and half optical.
Thanks

Hi Mike,
thanks for the info, what I meant was a dedicated certificate (other than CCNA) for optical specialists...I found that SP Optical #350-020 is used for recertification (after CCIE)
but still i do not have CCNA yet ,so maybe this is not an option...although that am familar with the optical part(SONET/SDH,DWDM...etc)

Omar,
Yeah after I left the message I went and looked at the other Optical stuff. Looks like there's nothing really left, especially since the SP Optical is only good for CCIE re-cert. Strange...

You're welcome.
You can check out these two books. They should give you quite a bit to think about.
Cisco Self-Study: Building Cisco Metro Optical Networks (METRO) (Warren, Hartmann, ISBN #1587050706)
Optical Network Design and Implementation (Alwayn, ISBN# 1587051052)
And good luck with the PHD!
