Optical power fluctuations

Hi!

I am currently implementing a DWDM network based using ONS 15540 ESPX. Lately I have been noticing fluctuation on receive optical power level reading on the trunk side when i issued show interface wave command. Multiple issue of this command with yield optical power level reading between -11 to -19 dbm. Is this normal. So far the signal level is good and the network is operating OK. Apreciate your expert advice. Thanks.

Re: Optical power fluctuations

Are you seeing any alarms in the logs.Sometimes such fluctuations can happen if the transponder is having a problem .Check on this.

Re: Optical power fluctuations

Hi!

No alarm on the active transponder except on the non active tarnsponder (the one with no client connected to it). So if the transponder is the culprit, is there any work around like cleaning optical connector on the trunk side? Thanks.

Re: Optical power fluctuations

Flucuations could also be coming from your fiber plant. We have seen many issues when there are spans of aerial fiber and the right weather conditions. I would make sure that you are not seeing any bends or breaks that are occuring.
