The difference between ONS-SC-2G and DWDM-SFP

Our datacenter needs to summary 6 wavelength from the sub-datacenters. All sub-DCs need to communicate with our DC. We have 6509E,15216 MUX/DEMUX and 15454-SA-HD=.

Wavelength list:

DWDM SFP 1535.04 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1534.25 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1532.68 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1531.90 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1531.12 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1530.33 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)

Which SFP module do we need to use in our datacenter?

For example DWDM-SFP-3033= and ONS-SC-2G-30.3=. Which should we choose?

Which board should they be inserted and working on?

Hi,

In attach 3 variants of solution:

Variant A - Use 15454-GE-XP=(Xponder) like Muxponder multiplex all clients into one OTU2, for trunk I recomend use ONS-XC-10G-C=, because it's optical parametrs very good. But you can use other like ONS-XC-10G-EPxx.x= and ONS-XC-10G-xx.x=. It depends on diastance between sides.

Variant B - Use 15454-AR-MXP-LIC= like 4 transponer inside one card. One client for example ONS-SI-GE-ZX= transponding to one trunk ONS-SC-2G-XX.X=.

Variant C - The same like variant B. Difference betweeen clints SFP mudules.

Hi,

In eatch direction use need to use ROADM (SMR-1) with Mux\Dmx (15216)

In attach two principal shemes.

Var A - with Transponder\Muxponder 15454-GE-XP=(Xponder) witch you already have. You need to use ONS-XC-10G-C=, XC-10G-EPxx.x= and ONS-XC-10G-xx.x= for trunk side. And use ONS-SC-2G-XX.X= or other gray like ONS-SI-GE-ZX=.

Var B - You no need any SFP on DWDM side. Connect Mux\Dmx 15216 dicetly to SFP' s DWDM-SFP-3033= on Catalyst 6k Side.

Hi, - Do you have any design

Hi,

- Do you have any design CTP file?

- Are you already have channels betwen DCs?

This modules have same specification, but different hard-coded part number inside.

Spec for DWDM-SFP-XXXX=:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/dwdm-transceiver-modules/product_data_sheet0900aecd80582763.html

Table 2. Optical Parameters

Spec for ONS-SC-2G-XX.X=:

Table 29. CWDM SFP Modules: Optical Specifications

Table 30. DWDM SFP Modules: Optical Specifications

Table 31. DWDM SFP Modules: Optical Performance

Now you can see that they are the same specification.

- If you will use DWDM-SFP-XXXX= in ONS chassis it will work BUT in CTC you will see alarm "Provisioning mismatch".

- If you will use ONS-SC-2G-XX.X= in ONS it will work fine.

- If use ONS-SC-2G-XX.X= in 6k it will work, but you should use DWDM-SFP-XXXX= in 6k Catalyst and connect it directly to 15216 MUX\DMX if distance short. Need CTP design file to check it.

Thank you very for the

Thank you very much for the details.

Now I know the difference between them.

But I still have a question about the SFP module inserts board.

Like the example showed, we have 15454-OSCM=, 15454-40SMR1-C=, 15454-OPT-AMP-17C= and 15216-EF-40-ODD=.

They look like use fiber to link directly but not using SFP module. I don't know where these ONS sfp modules should use for.  Actually, when the links come out from 15216 and connect to our 15454-GE-XP=(Xponder), the frequency list will be a totally different one->1558.17, 1558.98 , 1559,79. XFP modules.

As I know the SFP position should be used where before links come out/in MUX/DMX

Thank you.It's pretty clear

Thank you.

It's pretty clear about the 1558.17, 1558.98 , 1559,79 part.

But I still haven't found the ONS-SC-2G-30.3= use way. 15216 won't use ONS-SC-2G module, right?

And these devices are all layer2,  so I just need to set one IP address for the TCC3 card?

If you already have 15454-GE

If you already have 15454-GE-XP=(Xponder) and ONS-SC-2G-30.3= you can't use this SFP ONS-SC-2G-30.3=. Because this config will not working.

Yes, you need only change IP of TCC3 cards. Provisioning-> Network.

Also I recomend you change in section (Provisioning-> Network) to GNE mode.

Then create Optical Service Channel (OSC) in Section Provisioning - Comman Channel - OSC.

If you have any questions ask.

Thank you for the reply.I

Thank you for the reply.

I have question about the data summary. I have data comes from  A B C D E F sub-DCs. How they communicate with main DC?

Do I need to ROADM them in main DC? I mean if I don't drop the 6 frequency out in DCs, how they are communicating with DCs?

Even I drop them out, I still don't need to use these SFP?

DWDM SFP 1535.04 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1534.25 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1532.68 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1531.90 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1531.12 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
DWDM SFP 1530.33 nm SFP (100 GHz ITU grid)
