2 Unity servers on 1 CM

Hi Forum

Is it possible to have two Unity servers, both running 2.46 same release, in an installation where we only have one CM. This CallManager will be upgraded to 3.1, but is at this moment only running 3.0(11).

The reason for that is, that we have some phones in US and some in Denmark, but only one CallManager. The US site has its own Exchange server. That is, two exchange servers, not in the same site. Therefor we need two unity servers if the users should have incoming messages in there own mailboxes.
Is this a possible solution, if we upgrade to 3.1 or do we need two CM servers, one on each site?

Regards

Peter Lillelund

Re: 2 Unity servers on 1 CM

Since Unity is nothing more than a bunch of IP phones to the CallManager this is possible with 3.0 and later. The only tricky part is that the DN used by the 'Messages' key is global with 3.0 or 3.1. (This gets much easier in CallManager 3.2.) You can either give the Unity ports the same DN and place them in different partitions or give them different DNs and use translation patterns to manipulate the dialed 'Messages' DN. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Hi Keith

Can you explain the different approaches. Pro and contra for both solutions?

Re: 2 Unity servers on 1 CM

It's just design stuff really. If both ports have the same DN what number will users call to get voicemail externally? Having every user translate the 'Messages' DN can get confusing. That is all I can think of right now.
