7912 Locked !! Please help !


I was trying to re-configure the IP address on a 7912, and set it up to register to a CallManager simulator.

I have a 7960 that is already registered with the simulator successfully.

I pressed the # key on the 7912, hoping for a factory reset, and on power up, the phone started ringing.

When I picked it up, I briefly saw a message "Upgrade successfull".

Now, when I power up the phone, I just see the two lights come up (Speaker and the one to the right of it).

The phone seems dead / locked.

Any idea what I could try to recover it ?

That doesnt look good.

Please put an sniffer trace to see if phone is still trying to boot up or its complety dead and need an RMA.

The normal procedure should be:

Step 1 Press the Menu button.

Step 2 Use the Navigation button to select Settings, and then press the Select softkey.

Step 3 Use the Navigation button to select Network Configuration, and then press the

Select softkey.

Step 4 Perform either of these procedures:

? Procedure A:

? Press **2. The phone displays "Do you want to reset all system settings to default


? Press the Yes softkey.

? Procedure B:

? Press **#. If your phone displays "Enter Admin Password," enter your password and then

press the Enter softkey. Make sure that an unlocked padlock icon appears in the

upper-right corner of your LCD.

? Scroll to Erase Configuration.

? Press the Yes softkey and then press the Save softkey.

The phone cycles through normal startup procedures.

OK, I finally solved my problem.

On doing a Ethaereal trace, I saw that the phone was

sending out DHCP requests.

I setup a DHCP / TFTP server on my PC.

It was then looking for cp7912r.zup.

I downloaded CP79120101SCCP030404A.zup and renamed it to cp7912r.zup, set up my dhcp server (with no option 150 suprisingly) and the firmware downloaded on to the phone.

I then upgraded the firmware using the CM simulator to the latest signed load.

It all works fine now, BUT I still cant get the 7912 to register with the CM simulator.

It asks for a SEPxxxx.cnf.xml, and the simulator responds with a valid xml file.

However, the phone just keeps rebooting.

With the older firmware, I was able to get the phone to register with the Simulator, but did not get a DN.
