7940 and Bandwidth

Hello, I have a network of 7940's registered to a CCM....sometimes I see though that the bandwidth used in one direction is double of what it is in the other....

I have G.729 as codec so total bw should be about 14k.

Can anyone give me a pointer as to where the extra bandwidth would be used ?

Thanks

Re: 7940 and Bandwidth

G.729 consumes 8k of bandwidth with no overhead. With overhead, actual bandwidth is around 24k depending on access media. CCM locations based CAC actually uses 24k for g.729 and 80k for g.711 to calculate bandwidth for call admission control. Take a look at the following link regarding bandwidth consumption for different codecs, payload sizes, etc. Also, the Voice Codec Bandwidth Calculator is very helpful.

Re: 7940 and Bandwidth

Can it be that my transmission system is giving false data?

I see only 14k incoming and 24k outgoing.....I guess it is time for an IP sniffer....

I have had problems with this system before....

Thanks Brandon...your information has helped a great deal :-)
