I have sent a 7960 to our office in France, and when the user plugs the phone in it goes through all it's configuration and then comes up and says "Compression
Type Error". Prior to sending the phone to france I did have it working in my office. The user verified that everything was plugged in correctly and the MAC address has been configured correctly. Before I send him another phone, does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be..?

Check this post below. You may have to upgrade your phone load. Are you running CCM 3.2? What is the current phone load?

If this helps, I had the same problem on a 7940 after upgrading our CCM's to 3.3(3) with the new digital loads...wanted to post my solution...
I unlocked the network config, then pressed **2 to set everything back to factory default. The phone rebooted, and then came up just fine.
