7970G vs 7971G-GE

7970G supports both Cisco Prestandard Power over Ethernet(PoE) and IEEE 802.3af PoE are supported.

7971G-GE does not support Cisco Prestandard PoE and only support IEEE 802.3af PoE

The external power adapter for the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G must be ordered to have full display brightness. The phone can receive power down the LAN from any of the Cisco Inline power-capable blades and boxes; however, the display screen is "half bright" and therefore is not the recommended mode of operation.

Does 7971G-GE has this limilation or an external power adapter must be required? Thanks in advance.

Re: 7970G vs 7971G-GE

they ask for the external power supply be purchased on both products.

the 797x requires the power supply only to provide enough power to brighten the LCD a bit more.

personally, i use mine without the second PS and it looks and works fine for me. (but the PS does enhance brightness)

The Cisco 7971G-GE

works fine in my experience with any IEEE 802.3af complaint PoE power source.
