alaw to ulaw conversion

This is regarding a international toll bypass application with ulaw on one side and alaw on the other. For voice channel, i know i can use G.729 as the common codec on the IP trunk while T1 port and E1 port on either end programmed with ulaw and alaw accordingly. How about fax ? If I want to use fax passthrough, not fax relay, can I convert ulaw from T1 port into alaw in voip portion ? or there is another way to do it ?

Re: alaw to ulaw conversion

no difference passthru/upspeed you will be common across the ip leg of the call and then conversion takes place on voice port there is no change in PCM stream received from pstn or sent to pstn. for instance

t1-----ulaw----voiceport-------ip g711ulaw---------voiceport----alaw
