Can Unity sit on an Excahnge server that also houses 30 mailboxes or is it recommended that Unity be on one server and the mailboxes on another?

We do support an "all in one" configuration where folks are homed on the Unity Exchange server so small companies can use us for both email and voice mail in one box. We limit this to 200 users maximum (you gotta make sure you have a big enough box to handle this as well). You can attach to Unity with Outlook clients and all that good stuff.

The 200 user 8 port limit is because in this config there's lots and lots of overhead involved. We're acting as a PDC presumably (ideally we'd be a member server), web server, voice mail server, email server and all those outlook clients attaching chew up the resources pretty hard.

You cannot have 200 users homed locally AND have us servicing folks on remote Exchange servers as well. The all in one is intended for just that... all in one. If you have folks homed off box, you need to home everyone off box if at all possible. No one homed on our local box should be using Outlook to attach to us in that case.

What if I have 30 users "all in one" at a remote site and a Unity box and Exchange server at the home office. Should the remote site server be in the same Exchange site as the home office or should it be in a different Exchange site using a connector to the home office Exchange site?

We can't log into folks' mailboxes over a site connector so all users being serviced by the Unity server need to be in the same Exchange site we're installed into.

I assume you mean you created some call handlers... there's only one directory handler per system.

You can use routing rules to get callers to specific call handlers on inbound calls, but the opening greeting is always treated as special. It can't be deleted for this reason. Subscribers get routed back to this guy when they exit their email box, when outside callers fat-finger an ID in a greeting they get routed back here etc...

I'm not real sure what you're trying to accomplish so I don't know quite what to suggest here...

I was only trying to preserve the default voicemail prompts such as "Welcome to the Unity messaging system..." I'll change my ways and use the default "Opening Greeting."

Ah... if you ever want to go get those default greetings for the opening greeting, operator call handler, example interviewer etc... you can find them all on CD #1 under "Localize\DefaultConfiguration\ENU". You'll see a number of WAV files under there, one of them called "OpeningGreetingDay.WAV" which is the "Welcome to the Unity system..." greeting.

You can use the Media Master in the SA to plug this wave file into the opening greeting again at any time...
