I read ATA 186/188 configuration guide which says there are two ways to make fax work: passthrough and fax mode. In passthrough mode, there are a bunch stuff need to be configured on GW. IN fax mode, only need type fax rate disable and no modem passthrough.
I turned on ATA and get IP from CCM and insert an loine extension for the fax number on the ATA. Both incoming and outgoing fax work.
But I look at the audiomode bits actually are 0x00350035 not 0x00150015 as CIsco doc says. and I didn't configure no modem passthrough on the GW. But it works. Any people have these experience can share with me?
As per the ATA 186 , it supports only Pass through and the GW should be disabled for fax-relay as it is on by default.
If you set the audiomode bits as 0x00150015 and the connectmode to 0x90000400 on the ata device, and add the command fax rate disable to your dial-peers and youi can get at least 10 pages of fax through

the softkeys. You enable or disable them via TCL. Here is the long
answer. Be sure to read the whole thing or e...
