I have a publisher with WinoS2.7sr7 and CCM4.1.3sr1 turning with BARS 4.08 installed. (+ a subscriber of course)
From time to time, the backup does not function properly.
This is what i see in the log: (backup is normally taken at 2.00AM)
Backup started at 02:00:00 AM on 11/15/2005.
[02:00:00 AM] Local machine name is Sv00193.
[02:00:00 AM] Local IP Address is 10.101.6.19.
[02:00:00 AM] Service account is Backadmin.
[02:00:03 AM] Backadmin has local administrative rights.
[02:00:03 AM] Backup running with Low priority.
[02:00:03 AM] Found 57809MB available on the boot partition for
staging the backup.
[02:00:03 AM] Staging Cisco CallManager target 10.101.6.19.
[02:00:03 AM] Saving Cisco CallManager version.
[02:00:03 AM] Staging Hosts file.
[02:00:03 AM] Staging CallManagerAttendant file.
[02:00:03 AM] Staging security files from C:\Program
[02:00:03 AM] Staging IPMA configuration file.
[02:00:03 AM] Finding Callmanager database
There is nothing more to find (ex. event)
The publisher is the backup server and everything gets backed up on an external device.
There is also enough buffer space on the hard disk.
Anyone who has an idea?
It's a rather fresh install of BARS on that machine so i guess a reinstall of BARS would not change much.
Anyone who has an idea?
I am pretty sure you are running into this bug. Your versions match.
CSCsb54272 BARS: Backup failing when backing up to DDS3 tape drive
Backing up CallManager version 4.1.3SR1 with BARS 4.0.8 to tape drive the backup fails. The tape drive model is DDS3 12/24 GB DAT Drive.
Fails with following error:
[02:10:23 AM] Archiving files
[02:10:24 AM] Process ID = 2296
[02:10:24 AM] Open process returned 1324
[02:25:50 AM] Error in modBuildArchive :Input past end of file
[02:25:51 AM] Could not build archive successfully.
[02:25:51 AM] False
[02:25:51 AM] Stage directory deleted
[02:25:51 AM] ***********************End of transaction**********************
The failure is seen most with Scheduled Backups. Forced backup from the BARS menu seem to complete ok.
CallManager version 4.1.3SR1
BARS version 4.0.8
Backup locally or to Network
I don't think i'm dealing with a bug here,at least not that one.
Data is stored on an ftp directory.
Reinstall of BARS? but will this solve the problem?
any other suggestions?
According your initial post:
02:00:03 AM] Found 57809MB available on the boot partition for
staging the backup.
Doesn't a standard CCM setup builds a 15GB boot partition only? Is this a standard installation?
Try once to backup locally instead towards an external device, does that work?
I don't think the installation has something to do with it.
Taking a backup locally is not giving any problems.
When taking the backup to an external device,it fails regularely.
well, i had a similar problem before it happened when i did the following:
the IP Address of the CCM was X.X.X.X
i activated the other Ethernet to be on the LAN
so the BARS was getting lost and it failed.
so i disabled it and it worked fine.
if its not the case, than sorry i cant help much
Check system log in the event viewer to make sure there are no disk errors. I had a problem where BARS would hang because of bad sectors.
Im running 408 and there is no option to backup to a ftp path only to SMB/Windows Paths. I recently had problems with BARS using IP addresses when using targets and destinations (there is a cisco document, I will try find it) Try changing these to the machine names then run a backup, ensure you can resolve them if not update your hosts files and run an 'ipconfig /flushdns'
Can you provide me the document, please?
I tried a scheduled backup on the local disk, but it hangs.
This is the last logging from BARS:
Backup started at 02:15:00 AM on 12/17/2005.
[02:15:00 AM] Local machine name is Sv00193.
[02:15:00 AM] Local IP Address is 10.101.6.19.
[02:15:00 AM] Service account is Backadmin.
[02:15:03 AM] Backadmin has local administrative rights.
[02:15:03 AM] Backup running with Low priority.
[02:15:03 AM] Found 57495MB available on the boot partition for staging the backup.
[02:15:03 AM] Staging Cisco CallManager target 10.101.6.19.
[02:15:03 AM] Saving Cisco CallManager version.
[02:15:03 AM] Staging Hosts file.
[02:15:03 AM] Staging CallManagerAttendant file.
[02:15:03 AM] Staging security files from C:\Program Files\Cisco\Certificates
[02:15:03 AM] Staging IPMA configuration file.
[02:15:03 AM] Finding Callmanager database.
So at the point the DB sarting to backup, the process stops.
Also when trying to backup locally,it fails.
Note that the problem only occurs with a scheduled backup and not if you do it manually.
I'll try the suggestion you made,Heath.
