Bluetooth headset with Cisco IP phone

Hello all,

A client is trying to connect a Plantronics Savi WT/1T bluetooth headset with a Cisco 7940 IP phone and it seems to work just fine when he receives a call and presses the "headset" button at the bottom of the phone. However, he wants to be able to walk outside his office and be able to receive calls by pressing the button on his bluetooth headset however the button is not responsive. Is there a way to configure this? I feel as though the button on the headset and the headset button on the IP phone would somehow have to be synchronized but I don't see how that is possible. Has anyone configured a bluetooth headset with a Cisco IP phone and have this functionality work?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: Bluetooth headset with Cisco IP phone

Hi Asad,

For this to work you would need a couple of things;

- a phone that supports HHC (headset hookswitch control) such as

Cisco 7942G, 7962G, 7945G, 7965G, 7975G

- the proper cable from Plantronics to work with the Savi this would

connect to the Aux port on the base of the phone and works in conjunction

with the HHC (enabled) funtion on the phone config in CUCM

- minimum CUCM 4.1(3)sr7

I can't find the model of Savi you linked but if you could check the exact model

number/name we could provide further details.

Cheers!

Rob

Re: Bluetooth headset with Cisco IP phone

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your help! The strange thing is, I can't seem to find that particular model anywhere either, yet, the customer insists that, that is exactly what the product box reads. In any case, I have provided the user with the necessary information, and once they've purchased the APC-4 HHC adapter, I'll configure it for them. Oh, and they're running CCM 4.2(3)sr2b, so hopefully that will be good enough.

Thanks again your help!

Hi Asad,

You are most welcome my friend!

Don't forget the IP phone requirements

- a phone that supports HHC (headset hookswitch control) such as

Cisco 7942G, 7962G, 7945G, 7965G, 7975G

So you will need to replace the 7940 for this to work.

We did run HHC with 4.2(3) but it was 4.2(3)sr3 so if you have any problems

you may to need to upgrade. You can check by looking at a 7942/62 etc. phone

config page in CUCM and looking for the "headset hookswitch control" setting

to see if it's available.

Cheers!

Bluetooth headset with Cisco IP phone

Hi Rob,

Just to be perfectly clear, there are absolutely no bluetooth headsets from any vendor that would work with a Cisco 7940 phone whatsoever? And to get any bluetooth headset (for Cisco phones) to work, we would have to have one of the models you mentioned earlier and CCM version 4.1(23) or above. Am I getting this right?

Thanks agian.. you're the man!

Best Regards,

Hi Asad,

you could use a lifter like the HL10 straight plug (http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/hl10-savi). Works fine for me.

Hi Asad,

First off, you are most welcome my friend

As you have discovered, the one feature that won't work in your current

setup with the 7940 is the ability to answer calls with the Headset while

away from the phone. The 7940/60 series of phones do not have the

Headset Hookswitch Control (HHC) setting available in any version of

CUCM. The HHC setting is the main requirement for answering calls

with the headset so without it you are not going to be able to make this

work for your user

To check your CUCM version requirements try to Add a new 7942 and under

the Product Specific Config section on the phone config page look for;

Hi Peter and Rob,

I had seen the 'lifter' on several websites but I had no idea what it was for, but now that you guys have mentioned it, I checked out a video on Youtube and found out how it works, and it sounds pretty good for people with IP phones that are not HHC capable. I will recomment this to my client as an alternative. Thank you both for your help - it is much appreciated!

Best Regards,

Asad
