Hi,
I just got a IBM X342 Server, and was trying to set up call manager on to it, But i am facing problems..
1) When i start the system with the First CD of CM 3.1, It reboots the system without doing anything ..after some fight i could guess that probably it was looking for a RAID controller card ( Pls correct me if i m wrong...because is it neccessary for the server to have this card ..becos i have taken 2 server for redundancy ?? )
2) When i somehow installed a RAID card...and began the setup again of CM , this time the setup started but...it hangs on a particular location and then keeps going in a loop ...no idea whats going in
PLS HELP ME....any suggestions ...how to install this CM 3.1 on a IBM server ?

Hi Maneesh,
Thats a bug (CSCdw90478) .
Symptom:
When using the OS 2000.1.2 Disk 1 to begin the installation process
of Call Manager on the IBM xSeries 340 or 342, the process gets stuck in a
loop.
Condition:
In the installation process, one of steps is to upgrade the ServeRAID BIOS
from 4.70.17 to 4.80.26. When the OS CD starts, it checks for the
correct HW and then goes to the screen called:
IBM ROM Update Program
On this screen, it says in effect that the ServeRAID-4Lx in slot 02 is going
to be upgraded from 4.70.17 to 4.80.26 and the Status is Update.
The server then reboots, the ServeRAID BIOS is NOT upgrade and the process
gets stuck in this loop. The same thing will happen if a newer version of the
ServeRAID BIOS is installed like the currently available 4.84 version.
Workaround:
Manually upgrade (or downgrade) the ServeRAID BIOS to 4.80.26 and run the
Spirian Disk 1 again.
To manually upgrade ( or downgrade) the ServeRAID BIOS to 4.80.26, the
following procedure was done.
1. Download the file IBMRAID480.exe from the CallManager & Voice Apps Crypto
Software site. http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cmva-3des
2. Place a blank floppy disk in the floppy drive.
3. Execute the IBMRAID480.exe file and answer the prompts to create the
floppy disk.
4. Place this floppy disk in the a: drive of the 342 and power on the 342.
The ServeRAID BIOS will be upgraded to 4.80.26.
5. After the ServeRAID BIOS is upgraded, place the Spirian OS CD 1 in the
CD ROM drive. The installation process will now continue.
Hope this helps.

Maneesh,
Yep...two suggestions.
1.Make sure you have got the new cd's ,probably yours dont support x342.It must be SW-CCM-3.1-IBM-V2=
2.I have seen exactly the same problem when workaround didnt work , TAC suggested to get another cd's but we ended up with a wrong part number for the HD and it was 36 GB instead of 18GB.So make sure you have EXACTLY the following config..
Qty IBM Part Number Description
1 86694RX X342 1.26GHz/133
2 33L3324 512MB Memory DIMM
2 06P5754 18GB Ultra 160 10K Hot Swap HD
1 06P5740 ServeRAID 4Lx
1 37L6880 270W Hot-swap Power Supply
1 00N7991 20/40GB DAT Tape Drive (Optional)
1 10K2340 Media Bay Tray/LVD Cable Kit (Required for tape drive)

Marina,
The config u have mentioned is of X340 Server, And i am having a X342 server, Well i think You may be right about the CD's , Well how do i come to know that is it a CCM Cd for IBM or something else., Does cisco make separare CD's for IBM., Compaq and all ?If yes its strange why cant these guys just get around with a single CD for all ...huh!!

Maneesh,
I have mentioned the right config for x342.
It can be also found here
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/779/largeent/avvid/products/ibm_srvrs.html
Regarding the CD's, x342 is supported for about 2-3 months only, so if your CD's are older it can only support x330 and x340 (and compaq servers as well). You can explore it on your computer and see if there is a folder for x342 i think. As i said the only CD that can be installed on x342 is SW-CCM-3.1-IBM-V2
Cheers,

Hi I had the same problem,
I made use of the CD delivered with the Xseries 342 to upgrade the BIOS and
it upgraded the ServerRAID firmware to 4.84.01 while the ServerRAID BIOS was
at 4.80.26. And it was looping .
I downlaoded the floppy at the link mentionned above.
Did a reboot with the floppy inserted and both BIOS and Firmware were put at right level : 4.80.26.
Now it works!

I am running 9 IBM X342 servers. The BIOS must be at at least 4.80. There was a new hardware detection cd as well. and the raid controller had to be a Lx card p/n 06P5740. If this raid card is the correct one then make sure the BIOS is at 4.80. and all should be okay. You may also want to install it as a dhcp server than go back and change the ip address to a static one. There was an issue in this area as weel in fact there is a cisco bug case. I will include both bugs in this post one to correct the load and one for the ip address so it will be a long post.
Symptom:
When using the OS 2000.1.2 Disk 1 to begin the installation process
of Call Manager on the IBM xSeries 340 or 342, the process gets stuck in a
loop.
Condition:

SYMPTOM:
Customer provided new IBM342, at the end of OS install static IP Address is
given and rebooted. After the reboot, in the properties of Network Neighbours,
there is one Local Area Connection and the TCP/IP properties shows it is DHCP
enabled. Tried giving the same IP Address, it gives a message similar to 'This
IP Address is used by the first Adapter'.
CONDITION:
Doing an OS installation with a static IP address on the newest IBM X342
servers with the Intel NIC chip model 82550GY.
WORKAROUND:
The best workaround for this issue is to spend the 40 minutes to reinstall the
OS and select DHCP during the installation process. After the OS installation
is finished, manaully set the IP address, DNS, and WINS info.

Hi, I have the same problem and I upgrade the raid firmware to the 4.8 version and I read all the information about the upgrade but when I put the CD 1 again the server downgrade again to the 4.70 version, and the installation are in a loop making the raid, What I can do to resolve this, because I upgrade the firmware but when I try to install again the software downgrade, If I change the CD and I boot with the CD 2 I have an error about that this software is supported to different servers, but nothing ocure, I have the SW-CCM-3.1-IBM product
09-25-2002 07:34 PM
Hi, You have wrong Cd's .Yours support only x330 and x340. Thats why you getting the error. You need SW-CCM-3.1-IBM-V2= (version 2..)

Hi, I have the SW-CCM-3.1-IBM-V2 software now, but I have the same problem now i have the 4.80.26 server raid level with the first CD (Hardware Detection) install the disk array, but when boot I have a loop, then I try to boot with the * 2 CD and make a BIOS Update, but I can't do anything more, I know that the callmanager install alone I only need to change the Cd's but this never ocurre, thanks for your help

Hi,
I know only 2 reasons for x342 to behave this way. Wrong level of the ServeRAID and a wrong part number of memory or hard drives . So if you believe that the first one is not the case check the following..
Qty IBM Part Number Description
1 86694RX X342 1.26GHz/133
2 33L3324 512MB Memory DIMM
2 06P5754 18GB Ultra 160 10K Hot Swap HD
1 06P5740 ServeRAID 4Lx
1 37L6880 270W Hot-swap Power Supply
1 00N7991 20/40GB DAT Tape Drive (Optional)
1 10K2340 Media Bay Tray/LVD Cable Kit (Required for tape drive)
Make sure your HDs are 18GB as i know many people that tried to use 36GB instead and experienced the same problem..

Get your Cisco rep. to get you the LATEST.. The very latest version must be at least version 3.2.4 Hardware detection disk or disk 1.. I had this problem and I went thru all what you have done, After I got this hardware detection disk 1 I was able to load 3.1.3A on 8 IBM 342 servers.. You gotta get this disk.. send me a note directly and with a phone number and I will be more than happy to help you out...
