Call Manager backup/tape problems

I was looking thru the call manager backup logs today and saw something wrong. Here is a copy of the log, but basically it states that there is a problem opening the tape to verify the backup. Does this mean there is something wrong with the tape itself, or something else? It says that the backup completed successfully, but it can't verify and the error shown when trying to verify, to me, looks awefully disconcerting....

I'm using the following versions:

Backup 3.5.44

Restore 3.5.44

Viewer 3.5.44

stiTape.dll 1.0.1095

Here are the logs (I'll edit for space. If you need the whole thing, let me know):

Re: Call Manager backup/tape problems

When was the last time you used a new tape? My guess is it has gone bad.

Re: Call Manager backup/tape problems

This is the first time I've used this tape. It's fresh out the box....but I'll put in a new one and see how tonight's backup goes.

I'll update tomorrow. Thanks...that's what I thought, but this is my virginal trip down call manager backup lane....

New tape, same error. Any ideas?

Re: Call Manager backup/tape problems

That error ERROR_NO_DATA_DETECTED looks like a Win32 system error = The end-of-data marker was reached during an operation.

Do you use the drive regularly ? If so you might want to use a cleaning tape. Try to format a new tape.

Also if your backup fails try and make a backup to a network drive.

Re: Call Manager backup/tape problems

How long has this drive been in use? What kind of drive is it? Backup to a network drive is a good idea, just until you get the tape working.

Re: Call Manager backup/tape problems

Brand new tape drive on a brand new server. In service less than one month. Have made backups to network...and am working a case with cisco to find out if this is cosmetic or a real problem.

Thanks,

Re: Call Manager backup/tape problems

FYI, for anyone having this problem, it was something funky with the way the backup program got installed. I ended up opening a case and after much laborious whatnot, I uninstalled the backup software and reinstalled. It worked like a champ, no worries.

Enjoy,

Re: Call Manager backup/tape problems

Do you have the Cisco Security Agent Installed? We had problems with the Agent and STIbackup

Re: Call Manager backup/tape problems

yes...i did the typical install of cm, all of the updates, and then the CSA. I guess that could have done it, but the bottom line was that I uninstalled the STIbackup utility and reinstalled and it worked just fine after that.
