Call Manager / phones in different bldgs, but on same vlan not working

ccm -> 6513 -> fiber -> 6509

All set to run on VLAN 100. In Bldg A, vlan 100 is routed, ip address 10.100.1.1. CCM server in Bldg A is 10.100.1.2.

In Bldg B, connected to Bldg A via fiber trunk, phones will not pick up DHCP config.

Do you have the helper address in each of your buildings setup so that it can know were to go to get the address for the phones?

Yep, just doesn't seem to be getting through for some reason.

The IP helper-address won't come into play because it is on a single vlan.

So the problem is that the IP phones will not pickup a DHCP address? Is it only phones in the one building that aren't working? Can you staticly assign IP addresses and TFTP server addresses on the phone to force them to work? There is fiber between the buildings; Are you using switches to terminate the fiber, and if so, can you ping between the switches?

Haven't tried manually addressing the phones. Yes, the fiber is terminated by switches, and everything can ping everything else.

Are any Pc's in the remote office? and if so are they getting there addresses from the central location as well?

No, as a matter of fact, none of the PCs we tried to put on VLANs originating in Bldg A seem to be working. The only difference is that we're using dot1q to trunk over here. Our other sites aren't having any problems. Could the dot1q trunk somehow be causing problems?

Are you using seperate voice and data VLANs? Have you configure native VLANs or using the default VLAN 1 as native? Also, do the VLAN interfaces on the switch show as up/up?

Yes, we currently have vlan 100 set aside for voice. Vlan 100 will come up in building B, but when we put an IP on it to try to route, we can't ping Vlan 100 in building A. Using the default Vlan 1 as native.

hello dave.

basically you need three things :

1)

fiber-link runs dot1q trunk, so all vlans go to all buildings.

2)

on the switchport which have the phones, you MAY also use dot1q trunk, but you will have to specify

'switchport voice vlan 100', so the phones will terminate this vlan, and use it for voice.

3)

the dhcp-server needs to be in the phones vlan. when you use different ip adresses than the vlan has, be sure to also enter the router-option (def-gw) into

the dhcp.

ip-helper will only be needed, if the connectivity to the ccm is made over routed environment ( wan connections over isp )

Did you enable your VLan's in VTP? Are you running VTP? If you left your administrative VLan on VLan 1 then just created VLan 100 that could be part of the problem.
