Call Manager Trunk Zone Prefix vs. Tech-Prefix

I have two CM clusters and I am trying to connect them with a H.225 trunk. I can get this working by using 2 different methods but I am trying to understand which one is the recommended method and why ?

Extension range at cluster A is 7XXX and extension range at cluster B is 3XXX. First method is putting them on the same gatekeeper zone and using the first digit of the extensions as the tech-prefix. Gatekeeper configuration is as follows :

gatekeeper

zone local SIGMA sigmanet.com

gw-type-prefix 7* gw ipaddr 172.25.5.11 1720

gw-type-prefix 3* gw ipaddr 172.25.3.102 1720

no shutdown

The second method is putting the clusters on different zones and using the following configuration on the gatekeeper (tech-prefix is set to 1# on the CM trunks):

gatekeeper

zone local SIGMA sigmanet.com

zone local LAB sigmanet.com

zone prefix LAB 3*

zone prefix SIGMA 7*

gw-type-prefix 1#* default-technology

no shutdown

Which one is the best option and why ?

Thanks in advance,

Emre

Emre,

I think option 2 is better, as you can have more granular control on bandwidth restrictions between zones.
