Caller does not hear alert or message re number outside local calling area

I dial a number in the same area code, but outside the local calling area -- i.e., I dial 94411244 when I should have

dialed 818634411244. (9-local, 8-LD). Ring tone is never heard on the 7940; as soon as "To 94411244" is displayed, the screen is wiped clean to an on-hook indication. Placing the same

call on a directly connect PSTN station, I hear ring tone, a long pause then the intercept tones, then a message: "Your long-distance carrier cannot complete your call as dialed...". Dialing a flat-out wrong local number (e.g., 91234567) I hear the error message as I would expect.

The q931 debug looks like everything is proceeding correctly at the ISDN level, but the timestamps suggest the call is terminated long before the alerting and error message is heard on a POTS phone:

Re: Caller does not hear alert or message re number outside loca

The Telco is the one which is dropping the call instead of playing the announcement which its ok to me, you may contact Verizon to instead of sending back a 0x8282 message back it plays the announcement.

(You can use CCM Annunciator feature also).

Thanks; I came to the same conclusion after thinking about it a bit, but haven't gotten around to calling Verizon yet. That's an exercise I'll leave 'til Monday.

Re: Caller does not hear alert or message re number outside loca

I spent a hour or so with Mr Verizon this morning and he eventually confirmed that their switch (GTD5) could not provide the audible messages heard on an analog phone. There was some confusion toward the end when he said that if I held the call longer, I could hear the message, but since the 3640 disconnects in response to Verizon's Release Complete, that didn't make much sense to me. Bottom line -- I'm sending an e-mail to our users telling them that if this happens, they dialed incorrectly, please check the number and dial again.
