Caller ID issues

I am putting a IPT/IPCC Enterprise system in Cananda. I am using H.323 GW on 2851 router with IOS 12.3(11)T5 version with CCM 4.1(3)sr1.

Since we are doing an area code routing for our call center internally, it is critical to get ANI delivered to us. The problem is when callers call in from cell phones to the toll-free number we do not get the caller ID. Blelow is a "debug isdn q931":

Feb 4 08:51:23.550 CST: ISDN Se0/3/0:23 Q931: RX <- SETUP pd = 8 callref = 0x011A

Bearer Capability i = 0x8090A2

Standard = CCITT

Transer Capability = Speech

Transfer Mode = Circuit

Transfer Rate = 64 kbit/s

Channel ID i = 0xE9808309

Exclusive, Interface 0, Channel 9

Progress Ind i = 0x8281 - Call not end-to-end ISDN, may have in-band info

Calling Party Number i = 0x00C3, N/A

Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown

Called Party Number i = 0xC1, '5073'

Plan:ISDN, Type:Subscriber(local)

Feb 4 08:51:23.562 CST: ISDN Se0/3/0:23 Q931: TX -> CALL_PROC pd = 8 callref = 0x811A

Channel ID i = 0xA98389

Exclusive, Channel 9

Feb 4 08:51:23.922 CST: ISDN Se0/3/0:23 Q931: TX -> ALERTING pd = 8 callref = 0x811A

Feb 4 08:51:27.604 CST: ISDN Se0/3/0:23 Q931: RX <- DISCONNECT pd = 8 callref = 0x011A

Notice "Call not end-to-end ISDN, may have in-band info"

This toll-free number terminates locally on DID, when I call the DID instead of the toll-free I get the caller ID fine, below is the debug

Is this definitely a Telco problem, or is it a gateway setting???

Thanks for any help!

Chris

Well, I see that 'call not end-to-end isdn' message a lot, does not seem to be a problem necessarily. The real issue here looks to be that the Q931 pkt coming in from the tool-free number has N/A instead of a calling party number. The carrier should be able to look at the messages they are sending and explain why they are doing that.

Call the telco.

I did that Bell Canada is claiming it's not their fault, it's the Cell provider.

Hi Chris,

This certainly seems like a Telco problem.A couple of questions though.

Is Calling Party Number i = 0x2183, '4165616329' from the successful call, the Cell#?

The unsuccessful call terminates on:

Called Party Number i = 0xC1, '5073'

The successful call terminates on:

Called Party Number i = 0xC1, '5101'

Was this intentional? It would be helpful to call the same number using both methods to help prove to Bell Canada that this is their problem.If you could call the DID that terms the toll-free number directly it would sure prove your case.

We also use Bell Canada as our provider, so if there is any testing that I can do that would help you out,just let me know.

Take care.

Rob

Hi Rob,

The debugs are from the same cell phone, but I dialed different toll-frees, we have several. All the toll-frees behave the same way, we get ANI on local numbers from cell phones, but not on toll-frees, we get ANI on all calls from land phones.

Bell is trying to blame the cell provider.

Chris

Hi Chris,

This makes no sense does it.If calls from Cell phones directly to the DID number work fine (correct ANI) it would seem to indicate that the cell provider is sending the correct info.I'm guessing that the cell phone is not from Bell Mobility, so it is convenient to blame someone else. I have discovered that we have the same problem here and have opened a Ticket with Bell. I will let you know what the resolution is. If you need someone with a Bell Mobility cell phone to call your toll-free numbers let me know by emailing me at:

rhuffman@mtroyal.ca

I would be happy to give you a hand proving this from my Bell cell phone.

Take care!

Rob

Thanks Rob,

Please let know the outcome. And after talking to Bell we called from Bell Mobile and ecountered the same issue as with Rogers. We've opened a new ticket to investigate it further.

Chris
