Re: Can a Gatekeeper do call admission control between IOS H.323

Yes it can,

You'll need to register your call manager and gatway to teh gatekkeper using different local zone.

You can the use the bandwidth command under the gatekeeper configuration to specify the bandwidth allowed between the two zones. Gatekeeper can use additional command “bandwidth” under the gatekeeper mode for call admission control. A bandwidth in KB/s is assigned to each remote zone, session or interzone and deduction is done per call with respect to the codec of choice and GK calculations.

Bandwidth used for deductions in Gatekeeper CAC

Codec and BW GK BW deductions (KB/s) Actual BW for voice call (KB/s)

G711 and 64Kb/s 128Kb/s 88Kb/s

G729 and *KB/s 16Kb/s 26.4 KB/s

***Note*** the actual bandwidth should be used to determine the number of possible calls between zones based on the WAN bandwidth available. When this Number of possible call is determined, multiply this by the Gatekeeper Bandwidth deduction per codec/call to determine the bandwidth figure to put under the bandwidth configurations below.

(config-gk)# bandwidth?

interzone Configure max bandwidth allowed from zone to all other zones

remote Configure max bandwidth allowed to all remote zones

session Configure max bandwidth allowed for a session in a zone

total Configure max bandwidth allowed for all calls in a zone

The recommendation is to use total, which accounts for all possible call from any where via the gatekeeper to a specific zone which is also with respect to the WAN bandwidth available for incoming call.

see this url for additional config help

Hope it helps

Tola.
