Using SRST you will also need a Call Manager. SRST works only if your call manager is down and you cannot use your router with SRST to become your stand alone PBX.

Thanks

You will need CallManager to register your Cisco IP Phones. Once, IP connectivity fails to CallManager, then SRST can be used.

Also there is a software tool that acts like callmanager. It comes with a CD when you buy Cisco Press IP Phone Services book. If you can t find any ccm for initial registration it can be a solution for you.

It supports only 2 ip phones though.

This is CISCO IOS Telephony Service Version 2.01: another words small PABX running off the CISCO router.

Hi,

I think what is best for you is IOS Telephony Service, a featureset of IOS which makes the router become a small but advanced PBX up to 24 / 48 users with all the benefits of IP Telephony.

ITS is now in controlled release so I think you should ask Cisco before using or selling it.

We've been using it for a long time because in Italy it is very interesting for very small companies and for remote sites and we have a great experience with it.

We've also developed several applications which work with ITS (which does not have many native features out of all standard telephony features) and add a great value to Cisco product.

Best regards

Re: can I use IP phone without callmanager?

If you are only going to use two IP phones, you don't necesserily need Cisco CallManager. Probably the easiest way to set them up is:

1. Upgrade their firmware to support SIP. See

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/788/voip/handset_to_sip.shtml

(URL may wrap)

2. Setup each phone with the IP address of its counterpart as its SIP proxy server.

3. Enjoy!

This won't work once you add a third phone...
