Cannot get MGCP Gateway to Register

Hi all,

For the life of me I cannot get a test mgcp gateway to register with ccm. The ccm is running 3.3.5 and gateway 12.3(11)T7 (a 2811 with vic-4fxs card). My super simple config is attached with the bare minimum required config from here: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios123/123cgcr/vvfax_c/callc_c/ccm_c/intcnf1.htm#wp1027337

The gateway seems to think its registered:

mgcptest#sh ccm

MGCP Domain Name: mgcptest.xx.xx.xx

Priority Status Host

============================================================

Primary Registered x.x.x.x

First Backup Backup Ready x.x.x.x

Second Backup None

Current active Call Manager: x.x.x.x

Backhaul/Redundant link port: 2428

Failover Interval: 30 seconds

Keepalive Interval: 15 seconds

Last keepalive sent: 13:53:09 UTC Mar 10 2006 (elapsed time: 00:00:04)

Last MGCP traffic time: 13:53:09 UTC Mar 10 2006 (elapsed time: 00:00:04)

Last failover time: 04:44:02 UTC Mar 10 2006 from (63.123.73.133)

Last switchback time: 04:44:32 UTC Mar 10 2006 from (63.123.73.132)

Switchback mode: Graceful

MGCP Fallback mode: Enabled/OFF

Last MGCP Fallback start time: 04:44:35 UTC Mar 10 2006

Last MGCP Fallback end time: 04:44:39 UTC Mar 10 2006

MGCP Download Tones: Disabled

Configuration Error History:

FAX mode: cisco

MGCP is happy:

mgcptest#sh mgcp

MGCP Admin State ACTIVE, Oper State ACTIVE - Cause Code NONE

MGCP call-agent: x.x.x.x Initial protocol service is MGCP 0.1

Dial-peer is associated with mgcp app:

<snippet>

in bound application associated: 'mgcp'

But the endpoints do not register. Just an FXS port on a 2811 running Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-SPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.3(11)T7, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3):

mgcptest#sh mgc end

mgcptest#

Ccm is there tho:

mgcptest#sh mgcp end db

Endpoint Name Type State NC Ext

* Root NA 0 x.x.x.x:2427 0 F

mgcptest#

The issue I have is that I can get it to register easily with the ccm-manager config server commands. It will register no problem, but I want to configure it manually.

Debug shows an INVALID MGCP EVENT, but I get that message when the gateway is registered too after adding the ccm-manager config commands. I've attached the debug when the gateway is registered and when it isn't as well.

I'm confident there are no common host/domain name problems as the gateway registers if I use the ccm-manager config servers commands...

Any ideas? I am missing something simple?

Thanks for your time!

Keith

Keith..

A few things I may suggest

a. You definitely need to specify application name as mgcpapp. Your config seems to have only "mgcp" as the app name.

b. Your gateway name in CCM configuration requires that you specify it as mgcptest.us.rig.net (since you have the domain name configured in the router)

I knew I just needed another pair of eyes to check this out! Indeed, I only put MGCP instead of MGCPAPP. Ooops...

Thanks a ton! You have been rated. ;)

Re: Cannot get MGCP Gateway to Register

Hi,

I know this problem.

When you create the gateway on the call manager you need to create with the @IP.

But on you gateway configuration, you need to delete this command : "ip domain name us.rig.net".

Best regards,

Youssef.
