Re: change hostname on call manager

Its not recommended to change hostname of callmanager, once its installed, because of Microsoft SQL limitation. You may change IP, but not name

Re: change hostname on call manager

I belive it is stated in the release notes of CCM that this cannot be done. I changhed the name long time ago and I had to rebuild the server. SQL is the issue, I have not heard of anyone successfully getting it done.

Re: change hostname on call manager

Hi Charles,

As Sankar and Chris have noted, changing the Callmanager hostname is not supported. Here are some docs which explain;

Symptom

You attempt to change the name of the Cisco CallManager server and the service fails. Other services also fail, such as CTI Manager, Extended Functions, and Voice Media Streaming.

Probable Cause

Cisco does not support changing the name of a Cisco CallManager server.

Corrective Action

Change the IP address instead of changing the name of a Cisco CallManager server. See "Cisco CallManager System Issues" to change the IP address.

From this newer 4.0.1 doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/prod_troubleshooting_guide_chapter09186a00801eb002.html#1037996

And for older versions of Callmanager;

Caution ** Due to a restriction in Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, you cannot change the Windows 2000 computer name after installation. If the computer name is changed, you must reinstall the server. Make sure the name that you assign is the permanent server name.

From this older doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/prod_installation_guide09186a00800b6346.html

Hope this helps!

Re: change hostname on call manager

I know definitely changing the name is not supported by Cisco. Consider if you have a SQL 2000 server and you want to change the name, there are somethings that you will have to do to SQL after the name change. HEre is a document describing this.

http://www.karaszi.com/SQLServer/info_change_server_name.asp

I havent tried this, nor will Cisco support this, so what I would do is play with this procedure in lab and see if it helps!

I also dont know if the name change affects any other parameters inside the Callmanager database itself, which may cause additional problems. So the above steps may or may not work with a Callmanager installation.

Sankar.
