change to unified messaging

installed a stand-alone unity 3.1.5 with cal manager 3/2.2c. Customer uses an smtp server for e-mail. He is asking if he can change and use the exchange running in unity.

Can he go to unified messaging using the exchange server on unity & if so, what's involved? new licenses? new install ?

thanks

Rob

Re: change to unified messaging

Yes and yes. The overhead involved with having email clients (outlook) attaching to the box and the extra email traffic really dictates you should be running that Exchange server on it's own box - We used to support "all in one" boxes for small numbers of users (i.e. less than 200) but even that proved troublesome so we definitely reccomend a seperate server for that.

Yes, he'll need a fully licensed Exchnage server installed on its own box for that. The Voice Mail Only license that we worked out with Microsoft that you're running now is specifically limited to getting voice mails and faxes from over the phone interface only - no desktop access other than through the seperately licensed VMI web interface. You can't use that for email services...

Jeff:

Can they buy the vm to um upgrade (unity-vmum4-usr) & purchase exchange licenses from microsoft & then do it?

If they can, is it technically better to keep exchange on a seperate server?

thanks
