We need connect IP Communicator via VPN tunnel with CME in our LAN.

Beacuse high bandwidth reguested using g711 codec, UDP/IP and VNP overhead we need to setup g729 codec for CIPC.

We try to setup "Optimize for low bandwidth" in CIPC preferences but g711 is still used.

Does anybody have experience how to setup g729 for CIPC?

The "Optimize for low bandwidth" checkbox is all that should be required. If you check this box, let communicator restart, place a call and click the ? key twice, what does it display for the codec (first 2 lines)?

Brandon

After key twice it display :

Rcvr Codec:G.711u

Sender Codec:G.711u

and there is no different between calling some other IP communicator, 7960 IPphone od analog local on PBX, always shows the same codec.

Setup codec for some other SIP phones is quite different than for cisco, there ara command for codec type under dial-peer.

We didn't make any codec preferences for CIPC in CME, should we?

We look the same problem - how to setup g729 on 7960 phone in the LAN(this is test primer).

you can put them in a different region/device pool.

Dragi

Dragi, we have CME no CM.

if i am not mistaken, there is a setting in the ephone configuration that will enable you to change to codec an ephone is using.

Dragi

you have to put it under ephone config and in cme 4.0 and above

eg

ephone x

codec g729

restart
