Can you set the power save idle timeout on a 7970 in CME so it turns off the screen? If not, is it possible to setup an idle background that is black?

Hi Tim,

It is possible to set the power save idle timeout.Have a look;

Cisco IP Phone 7970G Settings

the following display settings can be configured with the service phone command:

The days of the week on which the phone displays will be inactive or blank.

The length of time for which the phones' displays will be active.

The length of time for which the IP phones' displays will remain active, starting from the last time that the phone was used.

The time at which the phones' displays are activated, using a 24-hour time format. The default is 07:30.

The service phone command also enables and disables the following on Cisco IP Phone 7970G units:

Speakerphone

Headset

Settings button

Ethernet switch port on the IP phone for access to an Ethernet connection

Cisco IP Phone 7970G units' ability to respond to gratuitous Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) messages from their Ethernet interface

Note that the list of settings is not comprehensive. The service phone command configures all Cisco IP Phone 7970G units in a Cisco CME system. The command works with the vendorConfig section of the Sep*.conf.xml configuration file, which is read by the phone firmware when a Cisco IP Phone 7970G is booted. The following is an example of an entry created in a Sep*.conf.xml file:

parameter-value

Only the vendorConfig parameters that are supported by the currently loaded firmware are available. The number and type of parameters may vary from one Cisco IP Phone 7970G firmware version to the next.

For changes to the time-zone and service-phone settings take effect, the Sep*.conf.xml file must be updated with the create cnf-files command and the Cisco IP Phone 7970G units must rebooted with the reset command.

The show telephony tftp-binding command allows you to view the SEP*.cnf.xml files that are associated

From this doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5207/products_feature_guide_chapter09186a00802d241a.html#wp2285014

The IP phone that downloads the Sep*.conf.xml configuration file will implement only those parameters that it can support and ignore configured parameters that it cannot implement. For example, a Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G does not have a backlit display and cannot implement Backlight parameters regardless of whether they are configured.

Use the service phone command to populate the VendorConfig section of the SEP*.conf.xml file. Use the create cnf-files command to update the the SEP*.conf.xml file after using the service phone command. Use the reset command to reboot the IP phones to be configured after updating the SEP*.conf.xml file.

daysDisplayNotActive number, number...

Sets days of the week on which IP phone displays will be blank. The number argument represents the days of the week numerically, starting with Sunday (1) and ending with Saturday (7). Each number must be separated with a comma. No spaces are allowed. The default is an inactive display on Sun (1) and Sat (7).

displayIdleTimeout HH:MM

Sets the length of time for which IP phone displays will remain active, starting from the last time that the phone was used. The default is one hour (01:00).

displayOnDuration HH:MM

Sets the length of time for which IP phone displays will be active. The default is 10 hours (10:00).

displayOnTime HH:MM

Sets the time at which IP phone displays are activated, using a 24-hour time format. The default is 07:30.

Awesome reply! thanks!

So the service phone command only affects 7970 phones? No 12's? 40's? or 60's?

Hi Anthony,

The service phone command is for 7970G, 7971G-GE and the new 7931G. Phones that use the Sep*.conf.xml configuration file. Have a look at the following;

The service phone command sets display and functionality parameters for Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G,7971G-GE and 7931G units in a Cisco Unified CME system. The command works with the vendorConfig section of the SEP*.conf.xml configuration file, which is read by the phone firmware when a Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G,7971G-GE or 7931G is booted. The following text shows the format of an entry created in a SEP*.conf.xml file:

parameter-value

All parameters are supported on the following Cisco Unified IP phones unless otherwise noted;

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G.

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7971G-GE.

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7931G.

Were you looking for something to do with the 7940/7960 etc? Let us know.

Actaully I was looking to disable the settings on a 7912, for it's being used in a public area, and we don't want people messing with the settings.
