codec g729r8 in 12.04 doesn't fit with g729r8 pre-ietf in 12.1 ?!

Hi,

I have the following problem with a small star network over frame-relay.

In the central site there is a cisco 3640 and in the remotes I have 1750. All have FXSs for VoIP. I'm not using a gatekeeper because the network is very small.

On the cisco 3640 (by objective reasons) I have IOS 12.04(T) and the 1750 I have 12.1. I found on the CCO that the before 12.05 the g729 codec was not standardized and I will have to use g729r8 pre-ietf on the dial-peers on the 1750. Works almost fine besides one problem.

When I call from the central site to a remote site (ot viceversa) I don't hear the phone on the other side ring. The phone on the other side rings. I can talk very well if the other pary picks up, but I can't hear the ring. Is there a bug in the codec or it is something with h.323?

I will update the IOS at the central site, but I will be able to do that in about 2-3 weeks and this is a demo network.

Does anyone have any ideeas?

Below I'll insert the dial-peers. Maybe I have done something wrong...

Central1 (Cisco 3640, IOS 12.04)

!

voice-port 2/0/0

timeouts call-disconnect 0

dial-peer voice 1 pots

destination-pattern 10

port 2/0/0

!

dial-peer voice 13 voip

destination-pattern 13

session target ipv4:10.0.0.3

!

Remote2 (Cisco 1750, IOS 12.1)

!

voice-port 2/0

!

dial-peer voice 1 pots

destination-pattern 13

port 2/0

!

dial-peer voice 2 voip

destination-pattern 10

codec g729r8 pre-ietf

session target ipv4:10.0.0.1

!

Thanks.

brgds,

Hi,

your problem is that your gateway does not send the Ring back Tone when a call is made. You can try force gateway to send this tone by configuring the progress indicator into your dial-peer configuration. I am sending you a link with detailed configuration about this.
