Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

Hello together

We have installed a VWIC-1MFT-E1 Module on a Cisco 2821.

In the configuration I see the controller as "controller E1 0/1/0". But I can't see an Serial Interface.

As you can see in the output of a "show controllers E1" the port seems to be up and running.

sh controllers e1

E1 0/1/0 is up.

Applique type is Channelized E1 - balanced

No alarms detected.

alarm-trigger is not set

Version info Firmware: 20050620, FPGA: 15, spm_count = 0

Framing is CRC4, Line Code is HDB3, Clock Source is Line.

CRC Threshold is 320. Reported from firmware is 320.

Data in current interval (173 seconds elapsed):

174793 Line Code Violations, 7804 Path Code Violations

0 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins

0 Errored Secs, 0 Bursty Err Secs, 0 Severely Err Secs, 79 Unavail Secs

Total Data (last 87 15 minute intervals):

38445 Line Code Violations, 3984 Path Code Violations,

0 Slip Secs, 3 Fr Loss Secs, 3 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins,

2 Errored Secs, 0 Bursty Err Secs, 3 Severely Err Secs, 72506 Unavail Secs

We tried to configure the E1 port as an MGCP Port over the CallManager. He can download the config but can't install it. It gives use the following failure:

interface serial 0/1/0:15isdn bind-l3 ccm-manager

Can anyone give me a hint on this problem, that the Serial Interface appears?

Best Regards

Markus

Re: Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

you'll have to set up the timeslots depending on whatyou want the controller to do:-

e.g

controller E1 0/0

framing NO-CRC4

pri-group timeslots 1-10,16

This should then create a serial interface for you, which you will need to configure.

interface Serial0/0:15

no ip address

no logging event link-status

isdn switch-type primary-qsig

isdn protocol-emulate network

isdn incoming-voice voice

isdn T310 120000

fair-queue

no cdp enable

!

!

this would emulate an ISDN PRI network side with 10 channels.

Re: Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

Helo!

We have installed a VWIC-1MFT-E1 Module on a Cisco 3725 too

Adjustments of the controller and D-channel:

interface Serial1/0:15

no ip address

isdn switch-type primary-net5

isdn protocol-emulate network

isdn incoming-voice voice

isdn map address ^. plan isdn type national

isdn bind-l3 ccm-manager

isdn sending-complete

no cdp enable

controller E1 1/0

framing NO-CRC4

pri-group timeslots 1-31 service mgcp

ISDN Serial1/0:15 interface

******* Network side configuration *******

dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = primary-net5

L2 Protocol = Q.921 0x0000 L3 Protocol(s) = CCM MANAGER 0x0003

Layer 1 Status:

ACTIVE

Layer 2 Status:

TEI = 0, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = AWAITING_ESTABLISHMENT

Layer 3 Status:

0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)

Active dsl 0 CCBs = 0

The Free Channel Mask: 0xFFFF7FFF

Number of L2 Discards = 0, L2 Session ID = 85

%Q.931 is backhauled to ME 0x0700 on DSL 1. Layer 3 output may not apply

Then:

ISDN Serial1/0:15 interface

******* Network side configuration *******

dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = primary-net5

L2 Protocol = Q.921 0x0000 L3 Protocol(s) = CCM MANAGER 0x0003

Layer 1 Status:

ACTIVE

Layer 2 Status:

TEI = 0, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = TEI_ASSIGNED

Layer 3 Status:

0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)

Active dsl 0 CCBs = 0

The Free Channel Mask: 0xFFFF7FFF

Number of L2 Discards = 0, L2 Session ID = 130

%Q.931 is backhauled to ME 0x0700 on DSL 1. Layer 3 output may not apply

Re: Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

Thank s for the quick answer.

I tried to configure the controller with following statement: "pri-group timeslots 1-31 service mgcp" but I received only an error message "%Insufficient resources to create pri-group - it has been removed".

An I don't see any Serial Interface!!!!

Actually I have installed an Advanced Entreprise Image installed. The config of the router is as followed, which should sufficent if we can trust the online configurator:

DRAM: 256MB

Flash: 64MB

PVDM: 64MB

The VWIC Module is in slot 1 installed.

I'am confused!?! Any suggestions how to solve this problem?

Re: Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

I would try with a different IOS image and check if there is any different behavior.

Do you really need an Advanced Enterprise image?

Re: Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

dounds like you don't have enough DSP resources to process all the channels you want active.

Try reducing the number of channels and I bet it works, then add more DSP.

Re: Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

Well,, thanks for all suggestion above.

First we had installed a Service Provider Image on the Router and changed it to Advanced to see if we can solve the problem with this change.

I would say that we have absolutly enough DSP ressources, because I even not configure a single channel without an error message.

I think its something different.

Why do not answer my question?

Sorry for that. I missed your question.

I have read your post again and I'm not shure what your question is.

Please post it again in other words.

Re: Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

Hi

Can you move the E1 card to a different slot on the router? I can't find the document now, but remember seeing a document somewhere that said one slot wouldn't run the E1 card. I normally have the E1 in slot 0, can you try this? I have several 2821s working happily.

Also you seem to have a lot of line code errors and so on on your E1 - this indicates that your clocking isn't set up correctly or something else isn't right... If you have the card moved to slot 0: then set

network-clock-participate wic 0

network-clock-select 1 E1 0/0/0

These commands might clear up the errors but won't make the serial appear - I think you need to try slot 0 (or another slot) if you can.

Re: Configuration Problem with a VWIC-1MFT-E1

Hello Aaron

Many thanks fpr the help. We moved the VWIC from Slot 1 to 0 an what wonder it works without any problem. Could you send me this special document if you can find it again.

Thanks

Markus
